  4. Petrina Harris says:

Lucille was one of the first people I came across when I moved down from Carnarvon in 2004 and took the plunge into the ‘horse’ world. She was incredibly supportive and full of encouragement towards Ashia and myself as we commenced the journey of pony club, shows and fun with her first pony. Lucille’s willingness to take part in all activities, her energy within the clubs she was part of and her constant positive attitude is legendary. I always thought of Lucille as immortal, the news of her death has left me with such great sadness. Her absence will be sorely felt in so many parts of Geraldton. My heartfelt condolences to her family.

Lucille has been an amazing feature in my life since I was a little girl on a little pony at Spalding Pony Club. As an adult Lucille shared so many tidbits of her thoughts and ideas as we sat on the fences at clinics together. You will leave a huge space in Geraldton’s community. I am both saddened and heartened – saddened because I just love you and you are simply gone so suddenly! There are so many things I want to say to you in hindsight. And heartened because you will never be forgotten, with your witty responses, wicked sense of humour and genuine sense of justice. I will forever be grateful to have had you in my life. Much love to Rowena Alison and Kathryn and families from Peter and Sue

  57. Odette Williams says:

Met Lucille through our Midwesterners Natural Horsemanship group some twenty years ago. She made everyone feel included… (come here and give me a hug!) and was the best company. Swapping stories, that twinkling laugh of glee, the tin of biscuits she’d baked, riding and learning things together, hearing of her enjoyment and prowess at the cattle cutting days with Impulse; hearing gradually about her girls and Kathryn then become ‘one of us’. What fun we have had, at innumerable horsy days out and clinics, Lucille coming for hay and having a beer with Richard, stopping for a chat in IGA was the last time I saw her. Lucille drew strength from her interactions with such a wide circle of friends – it is such a shame we can’t all come together for many hugs at a big happy funeral for her. Lucille was a much loved Geraldton identity and I shall really miss seeing her out and about. Been a privilege to have her as a friend. God bless xxx

  64. Sarah McLay says:

I first met Mrs Peat when she free-leased my first treasured pony Bambi to us. A special lady with a special pony. I remember Lucille as generous, kindhearted, and loving, and as I grew up, I always treasured her as one of my very dear Spalding family. Visits back to Geraldton were always more delightful when I had the chance to see her again, the last time being 16 months ago when she showed up at Spalding to see us riding there with Marie. Lucille was always checking out what was going on, making sure everyone was behaving themselves. She was notorious for her practical fashion – shorts, stockings, and anti-burr boot covers.
Lucille was one of the special people who touch the lives of so many others, a role model for children and a valued friend to all. She will be sorely missed.

  65. Kathryn Braysich says:

Much sadness on the passing of our dear friend Lucille, one of the stalwarts of Spalding Horse and Pony club, a mentor and inspiration to many children and adult riders over the years.
She introduced my two daughters to the pleasures of riding by loaning her pony Bambi. She encouraged children to strive in improving their riding but also always having fun and considering the care and welfare of their horses. She was a bit cheeky and always up for a laugh, she also liked her tea in a cup and saucer! Love and sympathy to her family from Kathy, Cameron, Sarah and Alison McLay

  66. Teena Dixon says:

But that’s a very small story in the multitude of wonderful tales that you all must have. I Hope your wonderful memories will bring you warmth and comfort through the pain of her loss. Bless you all.
