  1. Anne Syme says:

Mike regarded keeping in touch with old friends as one of his priorities. Consequently he often made the long trip from Geraldton, which had become his home, to the South West where his immediate family and many friends resided. In Collie, where he had spent all his childhood and youth, there were numerous distant relatives to catch up with, as well as a few old classmates. Many of us had started school with him in 1944 and went right through until we finished high school.

As the years went by and the numbers of friends dwindled, as they inevitably do, Mike still made his trip to ‘catch up’.

He often timed these trips to coincide with the orchid season and his growing interest in wildflowers and birdlife all morphed into his other big passion – nature based photography, with the emphasis on birds and wildflowers. The lovely photographs he posted online are testament to his skill as a photographer.

Farewell old friend. I’ll miss you.
    Deepest sympathy to his family
    Anne

  2. Mandy says:

Mike, I admired your zest for local adventures. Your ability to see the beauty of nature around you was such a gift! You were generous and inexhaustible. Wishing you many more perfect days in the hereafter.
    Xx Mandy
